## What happens during an electrical visit

Our Clear Process

The same proven sequence applies to every job. We assess the fault, explain the recommended work and its fixed price, wait for your approval, then complete and test the installation.

Never remove electrical cover plates, touch exposed conductors, or attempt DIY wiring. Regulated electrical work must be performed by a licensed electrician under NSW law.

You tell us what changed

Describe what stopped working, where it appears in the home and whether it is tripping or flickering. Those details help us understand urgency and dispatch the right technician.

We assess the installation

Our licensed electrician inspects the affected circuits, tests switchboard devices and traces the fault with calibrated instruments. The findings indicate what has failed and which repairs are practical.

We explain the work and price

We explain the recommended scope of work, what parts are required and provide a fixed price quote. We wait for your approval before starting any work.

We test and complete handover

We complete the agreed repair, perform mandatory AS/NZS 3000 safety testing, and tidy the work area. You receive your invoice, workmanship warranty and NSW compliance certificate (CCEW).

Tell us what’s happening

Say whether there is active sparking, burning smells, or complete power loss. That helps us assess immediate risk and dispatch our emergency electrician without delay.

Take the safety actions

Keep everyone clear of sparking outlets, water leaks near power, or exposed wiring. If safe to do so without touching damp areas, switch off the main switchboard.

We attend and make safe

On arrival our electrician isolates the immediate electrical hazard, tests the switchboard, and makes the property safe before assessing permanent repair options.

Test and certify the repair

Once you approve the proposed work, we complete the repairs, test protective devices for trip-time compliance, and supply your CCEW certificate.

Site contact and access coordination

We confirm who oversees facilities, who authorises the work order, and site induction rules so there are zero access delays on arrival.

Load assessment and operating windows

We inspect switchboard distribution boards, three-phase equipment, and schedule cutovers outside your peak trade hours to prevent business downtime.

Documentation and compliance records

We supply our electrical contractor licence, $20M public liability certificate of currency, and SafeWork SWMS prior to starting work.

Testing, handover and invoicing

Every circuit is verified with calibrated testers, directory cards are updated, and itemised invoices are delivered to your accounts team.

## What to do while arranging urgent electrical help

Emergency protocol

Electrical faults pose severe fire and shock hazards. Protect yourself and your property by following these critical safety steps.

Electricity can cause fatal injury or rapid structural fire. Always isolate power safely and rely on licensed electrical contractors.

### Keep well clear of the hazard

Ensure children and pets stay away from sparking outlets, burning smells, buzzing panels, arcing cables or wet electrical fittings.

### Do not touch suspect equipment

Do not attempt to reset a breaker that trips repeatedly with a loud bang, and never touch charred appliances or smoking cables.

### Call our urgent dispatch team

Call our 24/7 phone line. Describe the symptoms clearly so our team can provide safe instructions and dispatch a technician.

[Call 1300 061 795](tel:1300-061-795)

If you observe active flame, dense smoke or immediate danger to human life, call 000 immediately before calling any tradesperson.

## Tailored solutions for complex electrical requirements

Specialised electrical capabilities

Beyond day-to-day electrical maintenance, we provide specialised services requiring advanced diagnostic tooling, network accreditations and heavy-power engineering.

[View all services](https://donerightelectrical.com.au/services/electrician)

### Safety Switch (RCD) Testing & RCBO Retrofits

A tripping safety switch or an unmonitored circuit leaves your property vulnerable to electric shock and electrical fires. When a switch trips repeatedly or fails the push-button test, our licensed electricians deploy calibrated digital RCD testers to measure trip time and current sensitivity down to the exact millisecond.

We trace insulation breakdown across hidden cables, identify faulty appliances, and retrofit modern Type A RCBOs that protect both life and property in strict accordance with AS/NZS 3000:2018 standards.

### Switchboard Modernisation & Asbestos Removal

Outdated switchboards fitted with ceramic re-wireable fuses, exposed copper busbars, or combustible asbestos backing panels cannot handle modern domestic electrical loads. Air conditioning units, induction cooktops, and EV chargers quickly overload vintage systems, creating serious fire hazards.

We complete full switchboard replacements, migrating circuits into non-combustible DIN-rail enclosures equipped with individual RCBO circuit breakers, whole-home surge arrestors, and clear circuit labelling.

### Complete House Rewiring & Fault Remediation

Homes constructed prior to the 1980s across Sydney frequently contain deteriorating vulcanised Indian rubber (VIR), lead-sheathed cables, or brittle cotton-braided insulation. Over time, heat and age cause insulation to crumble inside wall cavities, creating hidden short circuits and arc faults.

Our team carries out methodical full and partial home rewiring using flame-retardant TPS cabling, installing dedicated sub-circuits, modernising earth-bonding systems, and leaving wall finishes clean and intact.

### Level 2 ASP Service Mains & Defect Rectification

Work on the overhead service wires, underground consumer mains, and network connection points connecting your building to the street grid requires NSW Level 2 ASP accreditation. Standard electricians are not legally permitted to connect or disconnect from the Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy networks.

We hold ASP Level 2 categories 2A, 2B, 2C and 2D authorisation to repair network defect notices, upgrade single-phase supplies to three-phase power, replace private power poles, and install smart meters.

### EV Home & Commercial Charger Installation

Charging an electric vehicle from a standard 10A wall outlet takes up to 24 hours and strains domestic wiring not designed for continuous high amperage. Installing a dedicated 7.4kW single-phase or 22kW three-phase wall charger provides rapid, safe charging overnight.

We calculate maximum demand, inspect your consumer mains and switchboard capacity, install dedicated heavy-gauge sub-circuits with Type B or Type A RCBO protection, and configure dynamic load balancing to protect your home.

### Commercial Fit-Outs & Three-Phase Distribution

Commercial facilities, retail shops, warehouses, and offices demand high-capacity three-phase electrical distribution, emergency lighting compliance, and minimal operational downtime. Equipment failures disrupt business trading and expose operators to statutory liabilities.

Our commercial electricians handle distribution board builds, machinery connections, AS/NZS 2293 emergency exit light testing, and scheduled out-of-hours maintenance so your business operates smoothly without interruption.

## Why thorough testing changes the electrical outcome

Diagnostic testing vs guesswork

Testing with calibrated diagnostic instruments reveals what visual inspection misses. Here is what shifts when a licensed Sydney electrician diagnoses the cause instead of guessing.

Before diagnostic check

Repeated circuit trips & unverified fault source

After repair & testing

Fault isolated, circuits tested & CCEW issued

## What to check before choosing a Sydney electrician

Buyer’s Guide

These are the checks worth making on any electrical business, including ours. They cover licensing, insurance, pricing and what you should receive when the job is finished.

Five key electrical checks

Red flags to watch out for

Questions to ask before authorising work

### Verify NSW Fair Trading contractor licence

Anyone undertaking electrical wiring work in NSW must hold an electrical contractor licence. Verify the licence online to ensure it is active and unrestricted.

Our electricians are fully licensed tradespeople. We display our business credentials clearly and provide documentation for all work.

### Insist on mandatory pre-energisation testing

Simply flipping a breaker on is not compliance. Modern standards require polarity, insulation resistance and earth fault loop testing with calibrated instruments.

We test every new circuit and repair with calibrated diagnostic tools before re-energising, recording findings against the job.

### Check Level 2 ASP accreditation for mains work

Standard electricians cannot legally disconnect street service lines, replace consumer mains or connect private poles. ASP accreditation is legally mandatory.

We maintain Level 2 ASP accreditations across overhead, underground and metering categories for Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy networks.

### Demand an upfront written quote before work

Vague hourly rates can balloon quickly. Professional electricians assess the fault, explain the root cause and provide a fixed price quote before starting.

We inspect the physical fault on site, explain the recommended repair options and secure your approval before starting any work.

### Always obtain a Certificate of Compliance (CCEW)

Under NSW legislation, a CCEW must be submitted for major safety repairs, new circuits and switchboard replacements within 7 days of completion.

We issue official CCEW documentation for all compliance-triggering work, lodging copies with NSW Fair Trading and your distributor.

Refusal to provide an electrical contractor licence number

Verbal quotes without written scope or parts itemisation

Replacing fuses without testing underlying circuit loads

No offer of a Certificate of Compliance (CCEW) after switchboard work

Demanding cash-only payment before diagnosing the installation

Unaccredited technicians attempting work on street service lines

Will I receive a Certificate of Compliance (CCEW)?

Yes. A licensed electrician must submit a CCEW to NSW Fair Trading and supply you a copy for any new circuit, switchboard replacement or safety-critical work.

Does your quote cover testing and fault isolation?

Ask whether the quote includes diagnostic testing, isolation and verification or only parts replacement. Our quotes cover complete diagnostics, repair and testing.

Are you an Accredited Service Provider (ASP) Level 2?

If work involves consumer mains, meter boxes, overhead wires or private power poles, only an ASP Level 2 electrician is authorised to perform the work.

What type of safety switches do you install?

Ensure the electrician installs Type A combination RCBOs compliant with AS/NZS 3000:2018, which protect against both AC and pulsating DC earth leakage.

### What is the difference between a standard electrician and a Level 2 electrician?

A standard licensed electrician works on electrical systems inside your property, including power points, lighting, switchboards and appliances. An Accredited Service Provider (ASP) Level 2 electrician is authorised by energy network distributors (such as Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy) to work directly on the connection between the street grid and your property, including overhead service drops, underground service lines, meter installations, private power poles and network defect notices.

### Why does my safety switch keep tripping?

A safety switch (RCD) trips when it detects an imbalance in electrical current, usually caused by an earth leakage fault or an overloaded circuit. Common triggers include faulty kitchen appliances, moisture entering outdoor light fittings, damaged cable insulation or degraded switchboard components. Our electricians use calibrated insulation resistance meters to systematically isolate the faulty circuit or appliance.

### Do you provide upfront pricing before starting work?

Yes. Done Right Electrical provides upfront quoted pricing. Our electrician inspects the fault or installation requirements on site, explains the recommended solution and gives you a clear written quote before any work commences. There are no hidden fees or unexpected billing surprises.

### When is an emergency electrician required?

Call an emergency electrician immediately if you notice burning plastic smells from power points or switchboards, sparking or arcing fixtures, total unexplained power loss isolated to your property, buzzing sounds from circuit breakers, or water contact with electrical wiring. If you see open flame or severe danger to life, call 000 first.

### Why should I upgrade my old fuse box to a modern switchboard?

Older switchboards with ceramic rewireable fuses cannot protect against fatal electric shocks or modern high-demand electrical loads. Modern switchboards use combination RCBOs (residual current breakers with overload protection) that cut power within 300 milliseconds of detecting a fault. Upgrading also removes hazardous asbestos backing panels commonly found in older Sydney homes.

### What is a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW)?

A CCEW is an official legal document required in NSW under the Electricity (Consumer Safety) Act. It confirms that newly installed or repaired electrical work complies with AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules. Licensed electricians must lodge this certificate with NSW Fair Trading and the electricity network distributor for work involving switchboards, new circuits and service lines.

### Can I install an EV charger on a standard home electrical supply?

Most Sydney homes can accommodate a 7kW single-phase Level 2 EV charger, but an assessment of your home's maximum electrical demand and switchboard capacity is required under AS/NZS 3000. If your main consumer mains or switchboard are at capacity, a sub-board upgrade, 3-phase supply transition or dynamic load management device may be recommended.
